You can remotely view and control our software running on your computer using a smartphone or tablet.
One solution is to use VNC (Virtual Network Computing), which allows you to display and control your computer's screen from a mobile device over a local Wi-Fi network.
We recommend the following mobile apps:
- iPhone / iPad: Telkino (iOS 26 or later)
- Android: AVNC
Both apps can connect to a VNC server running on your computer.
The setup depends on your computer's operating system.
macOS
macOS already includes a VNC-compatible screen-sharing server. No additional software is required on your Mac.
1. Open **System Settings > General > Sharing**.
2. Enable **Screen Sharing**.
3. Click the information button next to Screen Sharing.
4. Enable **VNC viewers may control screen with password** and set a password.
5. Connect your mobile device to the same Wi-Fi network as your Mac.
6. Open Telkino or AVNC and connect to your Mac using its local IP address and VNC password.
You can now view and control our software from your mobile device.
Windows
Windows does not include a standard VNC server, so you need to install one.
We suggest TightVNC, a free VNC server for Windows.
1. Download and install TightVNC on your computer.
2. During installation, enable **TightVNC Server** and set a password for remote control.
3. Make sure TightVNC Server is running and allowed through the Windows Firewall on your private network.
4. Connect your mobile device to the same Wi-Fi network.
5. Open Telkino or AVNC and connect using your computer's local IP address and VNC password.
You can now view and control our software from your mobile device.
Linux
On Linux, VNC setup depends on your distribution and desktop environment.
For systems using an **X11 desktop session**, you can use **x11vnc** to share your existing desktop.
For example, on Debian or Ubuntu with X11:
1. Install x11vnc:
`sudo apt install x11vnc`
2. Create a VNC password:
`x11vnc -storepasswd`
3. Start the VNC server:
`x11vnc -usepw -forever -display :0`
4. Connect your mobile device to the same Wi-Fi network.
5. Open Telkino or AVNC and connect using your computer's local IP address and VNC password.
You can now view and control our software from your mobile device.
Note: These instructions apply to X11 sessions. Linux systems using Wayland may require a different screen-sharing solution.
Important notes
- Your computer and mobile device must be connected to the same local network.
- VNC displays the computer's screen rather than a dedicated mobile interface. For easier touchscreen control, we recommend using large buttons and a suitable Boards layout.
- For security, use a trusted private network and a VNC password. Do not expose a VNC server directly to the Internet.
- Keep your computer awake and V_II running while using remote control.
