Hi there,
I am new to the software and I'm currently a student. I'm considering this software primarily because of the easy ability to sync lights and sound, having just one long timeline for a music show.
I need to find out the following:
- I've only looked at ShowXPress so far and it looks like I can only use 3 pin DMX. Is there any 5 pin DMX devices available and if not will be a 3 to 5 pin converter like a cable that converts to 5 pin work.
- What other software supports 5 pin if any?
- Should I use showxpress or is there a cheaper and/or better alternative with the same features that are ideal for me?
Note that I'm not required to do this but I'd like an easier way to program shows so I need a balance of feature and price/complexity.

Re: 5 Pin DMX/New User recommendations
We are effectively proud of what our software is able to do regarding sound and light synchronization, and how easy it is to set up.
The official DMX socket has 5 pins, but you will find 3 pins DMX sockets in may be 90% (in our experience) of the DMX fixtures. The main reason is the cost difference between these two sockets.
You will find converters everywhere. Here is one for instance: https://www.amazon.com/Cable-Matters-2- ... 09558BG54/
